Advanced Approaches to System Modeling

This session will be an in-depth review of HUD’s new SPIST Optimizing System Strategies (OSS) system modeling process to model the inventory needed to meet the needs of all households experiencing homelessness with support for transitioning from the current system to the desired system using the SPIST OSS module.

1. Learn system modeling concepts underlying the SPIST OSS module and data needed to complete system modeling
2. Understand the process for modeling with the OSS module including the development of assumptions about pathways

Natalie Matthews/Associate/Abt Associates

Natalie Matthews, MSW, has been in the homelessness field for over10 years and has spent the last eight years providing direct TA and developing tools and products for homeless assistance projects, CoCs, ESG recipients, and HMIS implementations. She has conducted numerous needs assessments and provides direct TA across the country. She serves as the Chair of HUD’s Data Work Group and Data Leadership Teams, which help shape and drive HUD policy on data collection and reporting efforts. Prior to joining Abt Associates, Natalie was the Assistant Director of the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness where she served as the statewide HMIS System Administrator, coordinated the statewide Point-in-Time Count, and was a primary trainer for the organization on topics ranging from the HPRP to HMIS.
